IPA officially launch International Campaign : Advancing Peoples Movement For Sovereignty and Trade To Serve The Peoples!

Denpasar (22/3) Bali- Broad alliance of progressive mass organizations and civil society organizations in Indonesia called Indonesian Peoples Alliance (IPA) is calling mass organizations and international network of social movement in the world to campaign for peoples sovereignty and trade to serve the peoples to counter trade liberalization agendas that will be bring in APEC Summit and 9th WTO Ministerial on December 2013 in Bali, Indonesia. Abed Nego Tarigan from Walhi (Indonesian Enviromental Forum-member of IPA) said liberalization didnt give benefit for the peoples and should be stopped in order to defend peoples livelihood in third world countries.

“trade liberalization, that are been believed by the decision makers in WTO, need to be stopped, because its destroying the national capacity of third world countries. We need a new course, an alternative trade regime that could serve the peoples not to the monopoly capitalism and first world countries” said Abed Nego Tarigan in his opening remark at International Launching of Indonesian Peoples Alliance (22/3)

IPA International Launching is serve as first remark for international campaign in 2013. Various international networks are attending and giving their solidarity messages and join in IPA campaign, several international delegation that was attend this launching are Our World is Not For Sale (OWINFS), International Women Alliance (IWA), International Leagues of Peoples Struggle (ILPS), International Anti Imperialist Coordinating Committee (IACC), Asian Peasant Coalition (APC), IBON International and International Migrant Alliance (IMA). Deborah James from OWINFS said it is important for mass organizations in Indonesia and International to join their forces to put decisive interventions in order to stop trade liberalization agenda in the up coming ministerial. While Len Cooper from ILPS said WTO meeting this year is expressing that monopoly capitalism will used every means to recover from their own multiple crisis, one of them is WTO.

IPA International Launching is not only talking about WTO, in its program, IPA also see that global partnership for development that are being kept as driven forces of development on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is another tricky move by first world country to penetrate their foreign capital in the third world countries. UN High Level Panel on the Post 2015 Development Agenda that will set a roadmap of development agenda post 2015 need to be exposed. Several sectoral leader from trade unions like Federation of Independent Trade Union (Gabungan Serikat Buruh Indonesia-GSBI/IPA member) and Konfederasi Serikat Buruh Sejahtera Indonesia-KSBSI (ITUC/IPA members) said we are doubted every progress report of government about MDGs application, especially on the poverty reduction goals.

we do not believe that Indonesia Government is reported that poverty reduction program in Indonesia is success. It is impossible, because until today there no national minimum decent wage, further more the application of new provisional minimum wage still not been applied, at least there are not less then 142 company are postpone the application, ironically the government is agreed with them, cheap labor politics is become the sole from every regulation worker related in this country that resulted 70 percent of Indonesia productive forces in outsourcing and contractual workers” Rudy HB Daman, in his speech in the public forum of IPA.

Rudy statement is being supported by Andy from KSBSI, that is said cheap labor politic, outsourcing and contractual workers, union busting is become pillars of labor market flexibility framework of monopoly capitalism.

Peasant groups in IPA, are saying that Indonesia national capacity its been grinding by WTO, especially on agriculture sector. Trade liberalization has made Indonesia need to cut their agriculture subsidies while in the same time government obliged to do import on agriculture commodities.

Peasantry in third world countries are being attacked by WTO, rather applied genuine agrarian reform program that could boost national capacity, government is trapped him self in WTO. Could you imagine the price of garlic recently is 10 USD/kilo? This crazy, Indonesia is a vast and majestic country, we do have capacity for such garlic, why we need to import it, with such kind of practice, countries like Indonesia is threaten their food sovereignty.” said rahmat, general secretary of Aliansi Gerakan Reforma Agraria (AGRA-National Peasant organization/IPA members) from the venue of International Fact Finding Mission in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi.

More actual case related to APEC Summit, Ngurah Karyadi from KPA-Bali (IPA-Bali Committee) said not only in trade issues, international events like these had impact to peoples live, more than 150 peasantry families in Jimbaran, will be displace from their land, since the Indonesia government would like to use 250 Ha from peasantry crop land for establish facilities and venue for APEC Summit 21013.

That lands is already been worked by peasantry since long time ago, its value, is already more than production means, but its already become their life it self, separating them from their land, it is same with killing them. They have right on their land. Land grabbing and monopoly need to be stopped!”

Indonesian Peoples Alliance (IPA) vision is to realize trade to serve the peoples and up hold national sovereignty. The current trade regime need to be ended. Multiple crisis that are happen recently is an objective proof that an alternative trade regime is needed, where trade liberalization should be put as history, and a new course of international relation on development that are been put in sovereignty and mutual benefit become genuine practice of international solidarity.

On December 2013, IPA will organize Peoples Global Camp (PGC), that will become platform of vast initiatives on Bali during the ministerial. Various activities will hosted by PGC, and will be relayed to Global Peoples Conference as venue to various organization and network will be sum up in peoples declaration that will stated I Global Day of Action for Sovereignty and Trade to serve the peoples.

We are welcome every initiative, networks and campaign in Peoples Global Camp, PGC is being organized to serve and facilitated peoples movement that would like to respond WTO ministerial in this up coming December.” said Ahmad SH from IPA secretariat.
